Creating Workflow Actions: Send Email - Dates Format

Note: Company Organisation locale and the Personal locales for the recipient of the emails we have set up in Activity workflows are all set to a non US country.

When you select the Due Date field to be included in a task notification, the dates in the received emails are defaulting to US style dates.

Is this the way it is supposed to behave? If it is, what is the recommendation for a work around to have dates in notification emails set to the same date format as the locale?
