Unit of Measure - How to change it after theitem is save

Hello Gurus,

is there a way to change the Unit of Measure on an Item right after the Item is Save?

There is no transaction done on the item.

Is there a profile option I need to change, or is this standard functionality not allowing the user to change the Unit of Measure, as the field is greyed out.

See screen shot below.
