Expired BOM compontents still populating on Sales Orders

I have a BOM that we maintained the components to expire them, and then added a new component line.  When entering a new order, the BOM is pulling up the old expired lines on the sales order rather than the newest effective line.  Does anyone know why the newest line is not being read?  The date on the order is the current date, so it's not like the order line is back dated.  We do use multiple BOMs for an item, based on the the batch qty ordered.
