Payables Invoice : Is it safe to ignore the Distributions block in R12 and look only at Lines

We are upgrading from EBS 11.5.10 to 12.1.3In 11i there was no Invoice Line block – the Invoice Distributions acted like Invoice Lines.
In R12 however a new Invoice Lines block (and table) has been introduced.
After upgrade I have noticed that both Invoice Lines and Distributions block are populated.
However the one-to-one correlation between 11i and R12 distributions has been lost – there are more distribution lines in R12 for the same invoice than in 11i.
This is due to additional distribution lines being created to reflect Invoice Price Variance and Exchange Rate Variance (for Foreign Currency only). What is more confusing to the user is the fact that the Amount column (visible from the front end) for ERV is always zero – it is the Base Amount reflecting the exchange rate variation that has a value. This gives the impression to the user that the ERV distribution line is superfluous.

Howdy, Stranger!
