ADPATCH Issue

I am tryiing to automate ADPATCH non-interactive patching. How can I determine(ahead of time) that the last patch did not complete successfully resulting in two extra questions in the ADPATCH process.

Is there a particulat file that exists? Is there a way to 'clear' that scenario prior to running another patch? Hopefully you can understand what it is and why it is that I ask. Thanks.
