Raw Disk for ASM on VMware

Hi,I was asked by my storage team, does a reboot is required to discover a partition on a second host in VMware.
If i need to add more disk to diskgroup, if the server team allocated a disk on a server he says he has to reboot the other node in the cluster so that it can see the new disk partition.
I am trying to install 11gR2 RAC on VMware. If i do not need to reboot the server, can you please provide the document with the steps described.
