Creating an BI Publisher resport with Excel output

I am trying to create an BI Publisher report.

I created the concurrent program definition, using XDODTEXE.

I created an XML template, and an excel template, saving it as Excel 97-2003 worksheet (.xls). I think this is correct, but I am not certain.

I went into XML Publisher admin and created my data definition and uploaded my XML template.

Then, when I try to create the template and unload my excel template, it wants a file type of .xsl. I am not sure what this is or how to create it.

I think the problem might be the template type. My options are: xsl_fo, xsl_html, xsl_text, xsl_xml, rdf or pdf.
