ARM - One Rec open at a time?

I notice that I can only have one Rec open at a time. Plus when a rec is open, I can't perform any other action in the application. Can't even log off. It seems to user that the screen is hung.
Is it possible to perform other actions in the application while a rec is open or give an appropriate message to the user ?
