Data Migration of data and attachments from one Agile System to another

 Hi,
We are looking at a data migration of data and attachments from one Agile system to another Agile system.
This will be an offline data extraction and we need to transfer only selected data.
Since its a selected data migration we cannot go for a DB refresh.

Has any one done such data migration?
We could export data in form of AXML and import to the other environment, but I would like to know if there is a better way which would be more effective.
Agile Export is very slow and its not very productive.
