Can an approver be in two different approval hiearchies

 Hi, 
Does anyone know if it's possible to have an approver in two different approval hiearchies e.g. Purchasing authority and Budget authority?

Today we are using a customized wf for approval and we're not using AME on PO's. Our version is R12.1.3.
