Maintenance Events

We are seting up schduled maintenance events.  The user guide tells us to select an event name from the list of values. In our initial atempt, the LOV was blank.  We worked around this by entering an event name on the fly. This new event named then appeared in the LOV.  Through the application, can we set up new event names prior to setin gup the schedule?  I did not see it quick codes.  Is the event name LOV solely populated with events already associated with schedules???
