Upgrade from A7.3 on V5R4 on iSeries to A9.3 on a new Power 7 running IBM V7R1 - migration path

What is the accepted way to take an existing JDE World A7.3 installation and move to A9.3.A7.3 is running on an iSeries OS V5R4.  new machine is Power 7 running V7R1.

Do I save and restore current A73 to V7R1 and then install A93 as an upgrade?
Do I Install A93 as a new install and attempt to convert A73 data files to A93?

My understanding is that I cannot run A73 under V7R1.
