Help Creating Field

I need to create a field that essentially has the same functionality of a field already in the system. The field already in the system allows the user to search and select for any user in the system in order to connect he/she to an account/contact/opportunity, etc. I'd like to copy this field and give it a new name to use for other purposes. Can anyone help with this? I've created picklist fields before; however, I have had to create my own values for the field. The goal with the field I'm trying to create is to have a search
