Approval Workflow Notifications

Hi Guys,
I have a issue where Ct is asking if it is possible to make the system send a notification to approver (in my case the requester is also the approver).

ALLOW_REQUESTOR_APPROVAL= true will make the system auto-approve in this case

ALLOW_REQUESTOR_APPROVAL= false will make the system send a notification to the requester's supervisor (from what i understand  approver and requester's supervisor not the same person ).

It's a case for a custom approval worflow or is this possible with the current options ?
