Expand ASM Disk Groups on Windows 2008 64bit

I have a requirement to expand some ASM disk groups - Oracle 11.1.0.7 on Windows 2008 64Bit VM's.

The space is already available to Windows as unformatted but I am unsure as to the methodology.

from what I understand the following is the best process.

shutdown Oracle instances

shutdown ASM instance

Expand volume in Windows

Startup ASM instance -

Resize disk groups

Recycle ASM instance

Startup Database instances

Are there backup of the ASM configuration that can be taken in case anything goes wrong ?
