Error mounting zfs filesystem at boot: WARNING: /usr/sbin/zfs mount -a failed: exit status 1

I have a sunfire E6900 running Veritas Volume Manager that won’t mount rpool. I upgraded the system from sol10_u10 on an SVM mirrored ufs instance to sol10_u10 on zfs disk. I removed all the metadevice information from /etc/vfstab and /etc/system.

The error in /var/svc/log/system-filesystem-local:default.log is:

WARNING: /usr/sbin/zfs mount -a failed: exit status 1

[ Oct  8 13:08:35 Method "start" exited with status 95 ]

When I do /usr/sbin/zfs mount –a

I get:

cannot mount '/rpool': directory is not empty

My zfs filesystem appears to be correct, w/ no extra mount points.

Howdy, Stranger!
