Item Part Revision

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me on how you treat Item Part Revisions with in e1?

For example:What we do is we have a part# AAA-BBBB-CC where the 'A' are type of part, the 'B' model and 'C' ther revision of that part.

Is there a better way to setup items with in e1 that are better suited for ECR/ECO, BOM and SO's? So that there is not only a history of the versions of a spasific part, but the ability to sell parts with stocking type U or O (due to their revision) to customers with older products?
