Orders Closing immediately after ship confirm and workflow background process for deferred activitie

We've got a situation where we have orders that have been created in a prior month, once they are shipped complete the order closes after the background process for item type OM Order Line for deferred activites completes the order is immediately closed. I know it is oracle standard functionality that if an order is shipped within the current month the order header will stay open until the end of the month. For orders that are still open on the last day of the month the deferred process automatically defaults to immediately.

Has anyone gotten around this? It is causing us problems.
