E1 9.1: Next Numbers by Comany and Model J/Es

Hi --

We have next numbers by company turned on (method 2) and set up for docuemnt type JE.  We have the 2 digit fiscal year imedded in the number and it is working fine for regular journal entries but when we enter a model journal entry, it uses the NN from the regular Next Numbers, not the NN by Company.  Is there a setting or something that we are missing?
