HRMS - Slow when saving changes

We are using R12 and are experiencing a lot of slowness when saving changes in HRMS.  This was first noticed when making supervisor changes on assignment records.  It takes up to a few minutes for the save to go through.  Some fields seem to save more quickly, but others are just as slow.  Does anyone have any ideas what our problem may be?  Thanks.
