Using EXP to backup database without listener down

Hi, we have come to a discussion in a migration project and I have a question and hope someone could share the thought. 

If I shutdown the listener at the database server to aovid applications connecting to the database while doing backup, can the EXP backup still do the job without issue?

The EXP is taken place at a Win2003 server with Oracle 10g.
