Database Backup and Recovery (MOSC)

RMAN (10g) recovery to a server with no database (only Oracle RDBMS) and no catalogs.

Hi

This is pathetic I know, but I'm only JUST starting to play with RMAN.

I have a source RMAN backup of database.1 on server.1 (and yes I can recover it there).

server.2 has the RDBMS and directory structure (basically, with sym links to make them look the same, don't ask!) of server.1

I've copied the backup file structure to server.2

It appears that I have to have database.1 on server.2, that rman cannot instantiate database.1

Is that correct please?  I need a minimal database.2 ?
