Using Oracle client to connect to a remote database server

Hi,
The database servers used by our softwares are located on our network.
Most of our softwares use the Oracle client to connect to their database servers.

For a particular software, we need to use the Oracle client to connect to a database hosted by the software publisher.
Do you recommand such configuration ?
What are the risks ?
