Change End Date in Inv Period

All
We are in 11510 and due to an unique business situation, our customer wants to change the inv period end date from last day of the month to the middle for the ongoing month

I see in the Inv Accounting Period form Tools --> Change End Date but is currently greyed out

My question, assume if that is Enabled, then does it allow to change the date of the Open and Future periods

Any thoughts / Similar experiences, pls share
