Converting a Bill of Materials into a Kit

Our users would like for us to be able to convert existing Bag and Tag BOM’s into a PTO model and I was thinking maybe I could take the existing parent item and just change all the settings to the one used for the PTO but I am getting this message. Do you know how we could do this?
