Can we use Service Modules just to process a RMA return for a component of ATO Configured Item?

In the standard Oracle Order Management, there is a limitation that the components of an ATO Configured item cannot be returned as a standalone item.Can we use the service modules to process a return for just a component of an ATO Configured item? Kindly help. Thanks.
