Running a report using weblink applet

We had a report that would execute from the account page that passed the account id when running. This was utilising the web applet link. A patch or upgrade has ceased this from working at all . Support advise this functionality is no longer supported & have suggested using custom home page reports, which will of course return all records not just those from the account selection .

Has anyone come across a solution to execute a report Passing record id from a page either automatically or worst case manually via click her style please?
