Is mfg projects at all compatible with WIP Backflush?

Is mfg projects at all compatible with WIP Backflush? We are testing a process that includes tagging work in process orders with project numbers inherited from the sales order. If a subassembly has this project assignment on the job and later in inventory is it reasonable to ask for a backflush transaction? Do we have to push components with project reference onto the final assembly?
