Network performance

We are seeing slow performance at various remote sites after the upgrade from 11i to R12. The instance performance was acceptable when it was 11i but not after upgrade to 12.1.3. We relaized that the forms is changed to servlet mode from socket mode in R12 that is more chatty but didnt realize it would be this bad for some of the sites. When performing the network test for some of the sites the avg latency is almost double that of the previous 11i instance. Can anyone of you share if you had similar experience and what workarounds did you
