Assigning actively used operating units to new legal entity/ledger

My client wants to assign exisitng operating units and the related data to a new legal entity and ledger. The client is separating its business and selling the new company.   The new company represents 80 - 90% of the current data.  The client has a short time window to separate the business. 

Initially the new company will operate as a subsidiary of the parent company; generating its only financial and income reporting.  Soon after the company will need to appear as a new company and eventually separated on different Oracle EBS instances.  

During the first stage of separation, the client intends to update the data in the operating units to point to the new legal entity/ledger combination.  They intend to run a series of UPDATE statements against the setup tables, e.g., AR_SYSTEM_PARAMETERS_ALL, and transactional tables, e.g., RA_CUSTOMER_TRX_ALL.
