Sync passwd and shadow file

Hi there

i have setup in the /etc/default/passwd  the MAXWEEKS to 6, but the the value in the /etc/shadow file is tsill 28 days (my previosu setting)

how do i sync the 2 files - new users the MAXWEEKS are applied but what about the old users?

please advise,
