Get and Check out application..

From my understanding, we may use 'get ' to copy the central object if we wanted to see the changes....So, the check-in button should not be applicable ...right ?

Unless we checked out the object before  using "get", then the check-in button is applicable , right ?

If we use check out then check-in is preferable...if check-in is not done, can i apply 'erase checkout' ?

can i apply 'erase checkout' after I use 'GET'  ?

Besides that, i noticed why some of the projects do not have 'GET' button ?

kindly clarify my doubts..
