How to record a web transaction (Service test) when web app opens in new window

OEM 12.1.0.3.0 (and 12.any)  I want to create a service test that runs a recorded web transaction.  I go to record my transaction but the web app, after log on, opens a new window to do the real functions of the app.  It seems that transaction recording ignores this second window.  Am I missing something?  Is there a work-around?
