Install and Configure Oracle Reports 11g WITHOUT Access Manager?

We are looking to simplify our MW architecture. The need is based on limited resources, Basically we would like to have Oracle Reports 11g engine running where Reports are called from within simple webpage that is protected with custom login page. For example, I am thinking about small ADF application with ADF security. When user is authenticated and authorized the list of reports on a protected webpage would show.
Is this possible and has anyone done it? 

While reading the Installation and Configuration document it seems that configurator will ask to chose either Access Manager or SSO 10g for the access control
