Retire a partial asset and security

Hi - I was wondering if somebody could tell me with the steps to retire an asset when the cost has been split to various departments.  Is there a way to retire only say 2 mil which is related to one category and the total asset is for say 5 mil.  Also the security that one would need to perform this task.
