RDBPROD: DBMS BATCH RETRIEVAL PR ON PAGE AND LARGE MEMORY

edited Jan 10, 2014 1:17PM in Rdb on OpenVMS, IBM zSeries and Oracle on OpenVMS (MOSC) 4 commentsAnswered
Hi, a couple of questions.

1) Can someone explain to me in simple terms (I'm not a DBA or very bright) why a BATCH RETRIEVAL transaction in CODASYL DBMS generates a Protected Read lock om a page?

2) With Global Buffers turned on the number of pages used cannot be bigger than 32,000. This is run units * pages per run unit. Is this 32,000 page limit greater when using "large memory" and how is "large memory" turned on??

Many Thanks.

Rob
