Applying Credit Memo to Debit Memo

I have a user who created a debit memo to be applied to a credit memo that was keyed two weeks ago in error.  It can't be incompleted.  Now when she tries to apply the open credit to the newly created debit the debit isn't appearing in the lov.  How do we proceed?
