Choose a Listener

We want to use APEX 4.2.3 on a new database (12c) and I have some questions about the Listener Choice.

We have a separate install of 4.0 that uses HTTP and mod_plsql that came off a 10g companion install. It works fine but I am concerned about support on the 10g stuff.

1. I was leaning towards the APEX Listener but I think it should be installed with other current Middle Tier services (Weblogic or Glassfish)?

It is not supported in "Standalone Mode" (Without one of the services above)?

2. If #1 above is true, can I install just the HTTP/mod_plsql piece on app servers from 11g or 12c RDBMS installation media?
