I am new to Linux.

Just went live and are experiencing problems with resources.

I looked at the file /etc/security/limits.conf and tweaked the soft nproc line from 2047 to 4094 but had no effect.

I issued a ps -u oraprod command to see processes belonging to this user. They are upwards of 650 (don't know if this is ok)

I tried to kill some off but they keep on coming back.

I tried logging out and back.

Does anybody have any idea of how to keep the system resources in check ?

My server is an hp with 4 six core cpu's, 32 gb of RAM and 750 gb of hard drive of which 54% only is being used.

Howdy, Stranger!
