Many to Many Intracompany Mode

In 11i, journal headers with many to many intercompany entries were assigned a value of 4 in the field INTERCOMPANY_MODE (in GL_JE_HEADERS table). To balance such journals, intercompany entries were created using a clearing company balancing segment.

We have upgraded to R12.1.3 since. Those 11i intercompany entries are really R12 intracompany entries in our case. To balance such journals, intracompany entries are being created with a clearing company balancing segment (which is correct). However, the INTERCOMPANY_MODE field is not being populated in R12. Any idea if this field has been made obsolete and if so, any other way of identifying many to many intercompany journals?
