Send Separate Remittance Advices - intermittent error

Hi ,
I get the below error and it is intermittent.

There is a pattern found in failed trasactions where in it was observed the connection to smtp server from EBS app server is getting reset after 5 min.

Looks like processing a huge no of payments is taking more time and hence the timeout occurs.

DBA's confirm there is a 5 minute idle timeout on the smtp server but if the session is active ,it would disconnect.

Can anyone please suggest if there is a way to handle this issue other than restricting payment numbers by passing parameters to payment reference number from and to?
