Non-Unicode vs Unicode

We are going to be upgrading Siebel 8.1.1.5 SIA to Siebel 8.1.1.10 SIA.  Our MS SQL Server database is non-Unicode.  Do we need to convert this to Unicode for the upgrade?  We read that our database must have a sort order of BINARY but are unsure if we should be on UNICODE or NON-UNICODE.
