Reports running slow

We have noticed that our reports are running slow and sometimes will just time-out. This has been happening since this weekend. I have found one field in particular that if it is included on the report as a filter the report will run

until it times-out but if I remove this one filtered item the report show immediately. What could be causing this problem. The field I am removing is a filter on a check box and displaying is the field = 'Y'
