disovered targets list contains many oracle homes

 Can someone tell me what the consequences are if I promote all the available ORACLE HOMEs that are present in the discovered targets list in EM12c. Auto discovery Results, Agent based targets (second tab)i can't make heads or tails on what is already present or not in target list. 
Can you get a situation where there are duplicate oracle homes for a target, and does this have consequences for patching?
