What is SO18 field used for?

I'm researching why a batch of orders with kits backordered the components when the pickslip program (R42520) ran.  The orders originated through the EDI process being created by R47011.  I'm aware of a bug for kits affecting the kit line number, kit id, VR01, and SO18.  Until we can get the ESU applied (which will have to be after our busy season ends...Feb/Mar), we have an SQL to update the kit line number and Kit id.  This has been working well, until an occurance yesterday.  The parent line number was appropriately populated on the components when I looked at F4211,
