Projects that are Not Sponsored Converted to Sponsored

Hello Everyone,
Our client have capital projects that will initially start as non-sponsored therefore the projects are setup as such.  During the project and before the completion, they may be able to obtain grants or sponsors on these projects.  Oracle standard functionality does not support conversion of non-sponsored to sponsored project.  We would like to know what other companies or organizations out there are doing as a work-around.  Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
