ILOM/BIOS upgrade necessary ?

Hi,
It seems we are versions off in ILOM/BIOS versions for our 7420s. These are X4470 M2 based. Which fixes in the latest release necessitates an upgrade (3.0.16.12 ->3.1.2.24), or in other words, is it recommended to upgrade to the latest ILOM/BIOS release before upgrading to the latest 2013.1 release ?
