Permissions / Access Issue on Oracle 8.1.7.0

Hello - I am hoping someone is able to help with this strange query.

I have recently inherited an Oracle 8.1.7.0 database hosted on Windows 2003 server and a number of users are currently connected to it and working fine.

The users claim to authenticate using their AD credentials (e.g. DOMAIN\smithj) but when I query DBA_USERS I cannot see any usernames that seem to match the AD credentials.

There are a number of entries that seem related (OPS$user1 and OPS$) but none that match the AD usernames.

The main reason for the question is that a number of users want to have their priviliges increased but I am not able to identify the correct account to change the priviliges on.
