HTML codes in Work flows email alerts

 Hello Every one,
Can we use HTML codes in work flow email alerts. For one of my client , email alerts must be sent in certain format like with bold letters for few words. We can do this by using html but not sure can we use html codes in work flow or not. Please help me in solving this
