Checkpoint and Log Writer using 99% CPU

edited Jan 5, 2014 10:07PM in Database Administration (MOSC) 6 commentsAnswered
A developer running ubuntu 12.05 and Oracle 11gr2 went on vacation, turned his laptop off for two weeks. Came back to work yesterday and there is a process called ora_chkp_<sid> that is using about 99% of the cpu. Occasionally also the logwriter process
chimes in and uses a bunch of CPU also. Everything I google points to checkpoints he says he hasn't run checkpoints and didn't know of them.

Disk space is good.
Oracle shut down .. system is fine.

Does this ring a bell with anyone ?

Thanks in advance.
